Number of Events per Swimmer in "A" Meets

NMC Coaches will enter swimmers in as many events as they deem appropriate for a swimmer for any given meet within the bounds of MCSL's rules (see below).  For some of the larger age groups, this may mean that individual swimmers may not swim all of the events they hope to every meet.  In the end, the number of events any child swims at a given meet will be at the discretion of the Coaches.

The MCSL Rules around the number of events a swimmer can participate in are as follows:  A team may enter a swimmer in a maximum of five events. A team cannot enter a swimmer in all four individual stroke events (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly).

  • Example 1: If a swimmer is entered in the open Medley Relay, the Freestyle Relay and the Individual Medley, that swimmer can swim only two individual stroke events.
  • Example 2: If a swimmer is entered in either the open Medley Relay OR the Freestyle Relay (but not both relays), that swimmer may swim the Individual Medley and three individual stroke events

  • Relay events. A team may enter no more than two relay teams in each event

"B" Meets

What are “B” meets?

Wednesday night B meets provide opportunity for improvement and a chance for reluctant racers to start. Although the race will be judged, across the league B meets are not held to the same standards as A meets. Therefore, B meet times are not ‘official’ records of a swimmer’s capacity. B meet times are not considered official qualifying times for Divisional entries.

Attendance and Stroke Preference Deadline
Parents or swimmers must confirm their availability and stroke preference by Sunday midnight. No later! Coaches begin work on Meet Entries almost immediately.
Allocation of Entry Spots

Swimmers are allowed to swim a B meet event, if they did not receive a 1st place ribbon in that event. First place winners can swim for exhibition, if there is an available lane. If you swam 3 or more events in the preceding A meet, other swimmers will get priority. If you swam only 1 or 2 events or didn't win a 1st place ribbon, there are no restrictions. The spirit of these guidelines is to allow as many swimmers as possible opportunities to race.

Mini’s who want to try to swim in a B meet must have demonstrated a legal stroke at practice. Coaches will have the last say in meet entries.

For more information on MCSL Rules please consult the MCSL Handbook.
